BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT,
BETWEEN IDENTITY AND ELEGANCE
Works at the crossroads of two worlds: that of African traditions, rooted in memory and that of modernity, where every detail becomes a gesture of elegance.
The Lumans silk square is an invitation to wear one's cultural heritage with pride.
Our Mission
At Lumans, we believe that art can do what words sometimes struggle to achieve: transcend generations, cross borders, reconcile identities.
Our mission is to document and celebrate African cultures through exceptional artworks: to be worn, collected and passed down. Each silk square is a fragment of history made visible, drawn on the continent by artists who are from it, crafted with the exigence this history deserves.
We design for those who love to:
-Wear what they understand,
-Gift more than an object,
-Collect a rare piece.
What does Lumans mean?
Lumans draws its inspiration from the founder's name. It is also a nod to its English paronym “Humans”
Through this name, we wished to conjure up both the words “Light” and “Human”, reflecting our desire to illuminate the beauty of our humanity.
Our Artistic Approach
The starting point: a story
Lumans does not make accessories. We design artworks to be worn, stories to be cherished and this distinction carries responsibilities.
For us, African creativity is not an inspiration. It is the source.
Every Lumans design is born on the continent. It is hand illustrated by African artists based in Africa, compensated for their creativity and their interpretation of the narrative, not for anonymous execution.
From the narrative research, the creative brief, the sketches, the final illustration to its digital conversion: each artwork draws on countless hours of work and multiple areas of expertise..
Social impact
Choosing Lumans means taking part in something larger.
It means contributing to an African creative economy built on value. It means affirming that an object can be beautiful, ethical and meaningful all at once.
Passing down a memory is also a social act.
Lumans artworks do not tell Africa's story from the outside. They tell it from within, through artists who come from it, narratives drawn from it, gestures inherited from it.
To wear a Lumans square is to carry a story that might have remained unseen. It is to give it a place in today’s world.
Responsible Craftsmanship
Our silk squares are 100% made in Italy, by partners holding GOTS & FSC certifications.
These certifications guarantee environmentally responsible production and processing methods, promote the use of organic fibres, prohibit hazardous inputs and ensure fair working conditions: safety, regulated working hours, no forced labour and absolutely no child labour.
Artisanal Expertise
The entire production process of Lumans silk scarves is operated by master artisans specialising in silk.
Every stage of silk thread transformation and processing takes place in Italy, in the Como region, home to a long and rich tradition in these crafts.
Our artisan workshops carry over 70 years of expertise in the textile industry. They are renowned for the exceptional quality of their materials and their meticulous attention to the finishing of each piece.
